THE STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS

How It Works

Let's Connect

Start with a free 15-minute consultation to share what you're looking for in therapy and ask any questions you may have. This is a chance for us to explore whether we're the right fit for each other.

Book Your Session

Therapy is a deeply personal experience and finding the right support matters. If you feel comfortable moving forward, we’ll schedule a session and begin your journey toward healing and growth.

Begin Your Healing Journey

Together, we'll identify your goals, uncover your inner strengths, and create a sense of safety—both within yourself and in your world. We'll work collaboratively to help you move toward the life you deserve.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindful, evidence-based approach that empowers you to stay present and embrace your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Instead of struggling against difficult emotions or experiences, ACT helps you change how you relate to them—creating space for self-compassion, growth, and meaningful action.

We use ACT to support you in accepting your emotions, sensations, and experiences as they arise—without the need to evaluate, judge, or suppress them. Through this process, you’ll learn to reconnect with the present moment, clarify your values, and take committed actions that align with the life you want to create.

ACT unfolds in three key steps:

1. Acceptance: Allow space for your emotions and stay mindful of your internal experience.

2. Choose Your Direction: Identify what truly matters to you.

3. Acceptance: Move forward in a way that honours your values and aspirations.

Attachment-Based Therapy

Attachment-Based Therapy is a trauma-informed approach designed to help individuals heal from past traumas and attachment wounds rooted in early life experiences. Grounded in attachment theory, this form of therapy explores how the bonds we form with our primary caregivers shape the way we connect with others throughout our lives. These early attachments serve as a blueprint for building relationships, influencing how we experience trust, intimacy, and emotional connection.

At Holding Space for You, we gently guide you through the process of understanding and resolving attachment wounds, helping you cultivate healthier self-esteem and stronger, more fulfilling relationships.

Attachment-Based Therapy recognizes four primary attachment styles:

1. Secure: Comfortable with intimacy and trusting others.

2. Avoidant: Tends to avoid closeness, valuing independence over connection.

3. Anxious: Preoccupied with fears of abandonment, seeking constant reassurance.

4. Disorganized: Struggles with conflicting desires for closeness and fear of intimacy.

Together, we’ll work toward shifting unhelpful patterns and fostering secure, nurturing relationships—with yourself and those around you.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based approach designed to help relieve the emotional distress linked to painful or traumatic memories. EMDR works by guiding you to briefly focus on a trauma memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements or tapping. This process helps reduce the intensity of distressing emotions and sensations, allowing the brain to reprocess how the memory is stored.

Extensively researched, EMDR has proven highly effective in alleviating symptoms of trauma and PTSD. At Holding Space for You, we prioritize safety and stability as we guide you through EMDR’s structured eight-phase treatment approach. Our goal is to support you in releasing the emotional charge tied to past experiences, enabling you to feel greater peace and resilience.

During an EMDR session, you’ll be gently guided to recall a trauma memory while experiencing bilateral stimulation. This allows your brain to process and integrate the experience in a way that promotes healing and well-being.

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS)

Have you noticed a part of you that feels anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck? Or perhaps you find yourself battling a harsh inner critic that leaves you feeling drained and defeated? You’re not alone. Many of us experience internal conflicts between different parts of ourselves, each with its own needs, fears, and stories.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy is a gentle, empowering approach that helps us understand and harmonize these inner parts. Based on the idea that each person is made up of many parts that can sometimes be in conflict, IFS invites us to embrace, rather than fight, these parts of ourselves.

At Holding Space for You, we guide you in noticing, identifying, and accepting these inner parts with curiosity and compassion. We give each part a voice, helping you uncover what it needs, wants, and fears. Together, we work to heal wounded parts, soothe the inner conflict, and restore balance within you.

Instead of trying to silence or push away difficult parts, IFS helps you appreciate and integrate them—leading to greater self-awareness, inner peace, and wholeness.

Mindfulness Therapy

Mindfulness Therapy centers on cultivating awareness of the present moment—acknowledging your thoughts, feelings, and sensations without judgment or criticism. By grounding yourself in the here and now, mindfulness helps you step away from the automatic reactions that often come with overwhelming emotions and intrusive thoughts.

At Holding Space for You, we incorporate a mindfulness-based approach to help you reconnect with your inner world in a gentle and compassionate way. Through this practice, you can learn to observe your experiences with greater clarity and acceptance, fostering a sense of calm and presence.

We often combine mindfulness with other therapeutic modalities, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), to support you in creating distance from thoughts and emotions that feel too overpowering. Together, these approaches can help you develop a deeper connection to yourself, promoting emotional balance and resilience in daily life.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy invites you to step into the role of the storyteller in your life. Over time, the stories we tell ourselves—shaped by personal experiences, beliefs, and outside pressures—can become dominant narratives that limit how we see ourselves and the world. These stories may define us in ways that reinforce pain, struggle, or self-doubt.

Narrative therapy aims to empower you by separating you from the problem and encouraging you to examine your dominant storyline. By noticing and re-authoring these narratives, you can begin to see yourself and your experiences in a more balanced, compassionate, and empowering light.

At Holding Space for You, we guide you through this process, helping you uncover alternate perspectives and rewrite your story with intention. You’ll learn to challenge unhelpful narratives and embrace the role of the narrator—someone with the power to shape their life story in alignment with their values, strengths, and hopes for the future.

Together, we’ll help you discover new possibilities and cultivate a narrative that reflects your resilience, growth, and true self.

Somatic Experiencing Therapy

Somatic Therapy is a body-centered approach that emphasizes the deep connection between the mind and body. It is based on the understanding that our life experiences, especially trauma, are not only stored in our minds but also within our bodies. This type of therapy is particularly effective in addressing PTSD, anxiety, stress, trauma, and nervous system dysregulation.

When trauma occurs, it can overwhelm and disrupt the body's natural ability to regulate itself. Somatic therapy helps clients reconnect with their bodies by bringing gentle awareness to physical sensations, allowing them to process and release stored pain, emotions, and tension.

At Holding Space for You, we use a somatic approach to help you cultivate greater body awareness. By focusing on the body’s natural wisdom, we guide you through the process of self-regulation, fostering emotional balance and resilience. Since emotional regulation begins in the body—not in the thinking mind—we use bottom-up techniques that include breathwork, grounding exercises, guided meditation, visualization, and mindful movement.

Through these practices, we support you in restoring a sense of safety and calm within your body, empowering you to respond to life with greater ease, presence, and self-awareness.
